Climate Adaptation Workshops

The MaREI Centre are running a series of regional adaptation training workshops in September and October for Local Authority staff.

The workshops are being hosted with the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment (DCCAE) as part of the Climate Ireland project.

The statutory National Climate Change Adaptation Framework (NAF), which is currently being developed by the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment (DCCAE) under the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development Act 2015 will renew the existing mandate to local authorities to prepare Local Adaptation Strategies and to mainstream climate change adaptation into their plans and policies.

These workshops are aimed at those tasked with developing local authority adaptation strategies and will include an overview of climate change impacts for Ireland, an introduction to the key principles of adaptation planning, and hands on experience on the key stages of adaptation strategy development. The workshops will adopt a regional and hands-on approach, will introduce participants to key adaptation principles and provide hands-on experience of adaptation strategy development. In doing so, it will also seek to understand knowledge gaps and barriers to effective adaptation decision-making in Ireland.

Workshop dates:

September 14th & 15th in Cork

October 4th & 5th in Dublin

October 26th & 27th in Roscommon
