PRESS RELEASE June 1st, 2016
MaREI researchers at the Environmental Research Institute, University College Cork, have been involved in organising the 35th International Energy Workshop, which will take place at UCC on June 1st-3rd. The IEW is one of the leading conferences for the international energy modelling research community. In a world of environmental and economic constraints, energy modelling is an increasingly important tool for addressing the complexity of energy planning and policy making. The IEW provides a venue for analysts to compare quantitative energy projections, to understand the reasons for diverging views of future energy developments, and to observe new trends in global energy production and consumption.
The new Minister for Communications, Climate Change and Natural Resources, Denis Naughten will officially open the event. The workshop will discuss a wide variety of topics including future energy systems, health and air quality, water and food with a special focus on the themes of People, Policies and Pathways and trying to tease out if and how we can meet the politically agreed ambition of staying well below 2 degrees. A day pass to the congress will cost €110 and will grant you access to all the congress sessions taking place on that day (excluding evening socials). If you are interested in purchasing a day pass, please register here.
