Dr. Gillian Bruton is currently the Centre Manager for MaREI. Gillian graduated from UCC in 1992 with a B.Sc. degree in Chemistry and completed an M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Electrochemistry focusing on the development of electroless plating solutions for use in the semiconductor industry in conjunction with NMRC (now Tyndall). Gillian joined Intel in 1996 as a process engineer going on to manage wet etch and lithography technology transfers and ramps in a variety of senior positions spanning multiple technologies and Intel sites worldwide, completing a number of long term assignments to Intel’s technology sites in Portland Oregon and Santa Clara California.
Gillian completed an M.Eng.Sc in Sustainable Energy in 2008 focusing on the use of Hydrogen as an Energy Source for the Future. As a Research Fellow in the Sustainable Energy Research Group until 2013, Gillian has secured and project managed both National and EU funding in the areas of Sustainable Infrastructure and Energy Optimization. During this time Gillian also successfully program managed the preparation and development of the MaREI Research Centre Proposal from inception to final approval.
