Anthony Board
PhD Student
Postgraduate Student
UCC Energy Transition Energy Management
University College Cork

OVERVIEW

Anthony has professional experience in distribution grid operations and research experience into improving the integration of renewable energy using energy storage. He has personally contributed to retrofitting grid infrastructure, and has authored a peer-reviewed paper on community-to-community energy sharing utilizing electric vehicles.

CURRENT ACTIVITIES

Anthony is currently engaged in research into autonomous energy systems. His focus is on analyzing the interactions between local agents and modeling the capacities of large scale smart grids with distributed generation.

BACKGROUND

Prior to starting the PhD Program at UCC, Anthony worked as a Power Engineering Technologist at Pike Engineering for Duke Energy’s distribution grid operations in North Carolina, USA. Before that he completed his master’s degree in Solar Energy Engineering at Dalarna University, Borlänge, Sweden in 2023 after graduating from his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at Bucknell University, Pennsylvania, USA in 2021.
Feature Project

AUTONOMY

AUTONOMY proposes the world’s first autonomous community energy management system, demonstrating the advantages of an electricity grid supported by autonomously-operated, decentralised cells over present centralised command and control approaches.
