Workshop: Passive Acoustic Monitoring for Improved Conservation of Harbour Porpoise in Irish SACs
21 August 2025 | 10:00–11:30 (GMT+1)
Online – Free to attend
Are you involved in marine conservation, policy, acoustic monitoring, or protected area management for harbour porpoise or other small cetaceans?
Join us for a focused workshop exploring how integrated monitoring approaches can support the management of harbour porpoise Special Areas of Conservation (SACs), particularly in light of the recent expansion from 3 to 16 designated sites in Irish waters.
Organised as part of my Research Ireland Government of Ireland Postdoctoral Fellowship, Porpoises, PAM, and Perspectives for Conservation and Management, this session will include:
- Key findings from acoustic and visual monitoring in Roaringwater Bay SAC
- An update from NPWS on the harbour porpoise SAC network and monitoring needs
- Breakout discussions on practical monitoring strategies
- International perspectives on small cetacean monitoring
Whether you’re working on conservation policy, applied research, or protected area management, your input is valued, and we’d love to hear from you.
