In 2015 UCC/MaREI were awarded MaREI directors Fund in response to demand and query to scope out the industry needs for training courses. Over a four-month period the national and international marine industry was consulted with an emphasis on device and project developers in both marine and tidal. 31 national and 16 international stakeholders were consulted on a list of 25 topics deemed to be of most interest to the marine industry. The topics were ranked between 1 and 7, with 7 being of most interest. The average interest of all the topics range between 4 and 6, highlighting a significant interest in a majority of the topics. All stakeholders consulted were keen on courses being provided.

The topics and their rankings can be seen in the figure above.
