OVERVIEW

Milena Marycz is a highly accomplished researcher with a strong background in biotechnology, informatics, and chemical engineering. Her work spans multiple disciplines, including bioprocess optimization, biofiltration, and microbiology, with a focus on sustainable solutions for waste treatment and biogas upgrading. Milena’s academic and research journey is characterized by her diverse international experience, having conducted research at prestigious institutions in Spain, the USA, and Ireland.

CURRENT ACTIVITIES

Milena is currently a postdoctoral researcher at UCC, where she contributes to the Anaerobic Digestion and Alternative Protein Trials (ADAPT) project in collaboration with AB InBev. Her research focuses on anaerobic fermentation processes and their microbiological aspects.

BACKGROUND

Milena’s academic journey began at Gdańsk University of Technology, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Biotechnology (2016) and Informatics (2019). She completed a Master’s degree in Biotechnology in 2017, followed by a PhD in Chemical Sciences (2023), with research focusing on the use of fungi in biofiltration to remove volatile organic compounds. Throughout her PhD, Milena conducted four international research internships, including extended stays at the University of Valladolid (Spain), Duke University (USA), and University College Cork (Ireland). These experiences have contributed to her expertise in biogas upgrading, waste-to-energy processes, and biofiltration techniques.
