Our schools programme supports many of the initiatives led by the SFI Discover Programme including Smart Futures where researchers deliver a career talk to students, and Science week & Engineers Week when we run events for schools and families.  At primary level we are a partner in the STEAM Education programme where we deliver hands on engineering lessons in local primary schools.  At second level we facilitate career talks and site visits and we also mentor teams in the international VEX robotics competition where students work together to build and programme a robot to respond to a challenge.

In higher level education MaREI supports over 50 PhD candidates in diverse research areas across the Centre and contributes to a number of inter-institutional Masters.  MaREI students can avail of industry internships, international student exchange programmes, and transferrable skills training in commercialisation, entrepreneurship and communication.

MaREI understands the importance of ongoing internal education and training for our staff, and we pursue an active programme of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities, in addition to in-house seminars and presentations. MaREI students and researchers are encouraged to participate in public presentation competitions such as UCC’s Science For All, FameLab and Thesis in 3 which further promote the sharing of knowledge and information across our community.

MaREI researchers also contribute to workshops for education providers at a national and international level, as well as lecturing in third level institutions, thus enabling knowledge transfer.
