MaREI Director elected the Chair of the Executive Committee of IEA-ETSAP | Energy Technology Systems Analysis Program

Congratulations to MaREI Director, who was honoured to be elected the Chair of the Executive Committee of IEA-ETSAP | Energy Technology Systems Analysis Program, to guide a community of around 200 energy systems modelling teams in nearly 70 countries globally over the next year.

commented “It’s a priviledge and humbling to receive this peer approval and to be given the opportunity as we embark on a new work programme to extend capabilities in our TIMES modelling tools in areas such as infrastructure, investment, critical minerals and low energy demand scenarios, in addition to exploring interactions between energy system and social systems, structural change, circular economy and SDGs.”

ETSAP is one of the nearly 40 Technology Collaboration Programmes established by the International Energy Agency (IEA), a unique global network that drives cutting-edge energy technology research through international cooperation.

ETSAP specifically focuses on building energy systems modelling capacity and modelling tools and using the resultant national and multi-regional TIMES models to underpin Government policies on energy security, energy efficiency, climate action, reneweable energy and energy research programmes, via scenario analyses.
