SFI Frontiers for the Future Award for the “AUTONOMY” project

Dr. Barry Hayes received €1.03 million funding from a SFI Frontiers for the Future Award for a new project called “AUTONOMY” to be hosted at MaREI and the UCC School of Engineering. AUTONOMY aims to design, develop, and demonstrate the first fully-autonomous community energy management system, as part of a wider strategy to decentralise grid energy balancing and coordinate multiple energy resources at the local level.

The SFI Frontiers for the Future Programme provides opportunities for independent investigators to conduct highly innovative, collaborative research with the potential to deliver impact, whilst also providing opportunities for high-risk, high-reward research projects.
