Ocean Storytelling: Stories of the Sea
During European Maritime Day (Cork, Ireland) in 2025 an event “Ocean Storytelling: stories of the Sea” took place near The River Lee at MYO Café.
The interactive folkstory session featured compelling narratives from a former navy captain, fisherman, and fisherwoman, who shared their daily experiences of ocean and waters. Their stories offered insights into how life at sea shapes perspectives and deepens connections with marine environments.
The event extended beyond storytelling, incorporating songs that united the audience through shared connections with seas, ocean, and water life. This approach created an atmosphere where personal maritime experiences resonated with the broader community.
RUA Productions captured the event in a short film, preserving these ocean stories for wider audiences. The evening opened with a poetry reading by Soli Levi, setting a reflective tone for the maritime narratives that followed.
The event emerged from collaboration between BlueMissionAA, TIDAL ArtS, and the local MYO Café team. The event gave a chance to reflect on what the ocean and seas can teach and how the experience of being at sea every day shapes us.
